Performing Arts Provision

In February 2005 Co-South published their study into the provision of performing arts resources in public libraries in the South East of England. This was joint-funded with MLA South East and is available by following the link on the right of the screen.

The over-arching recommendation of the report was that a regional working group be set up in order to formulate and implement a regional strategy to improve performance arts provision ensuring that the public has seamless access to sets and informed advice across the region.

Areas which need to be addressed include:

  • Provision and Condition of Sets
  • Operating Practices
  • User awareness, Catalogues and Indexes
  • Staffing & Communication

Representatives from Library Authorities in the South East have now met with the aim of moving this agenda forward. Proposals are being considered for standardising interloans between authorities and to consider a database of playsets.
