- Celebrating the launch of the Cultural Olympiad

- The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has set up a database to record activities for the launch weekend of the Cultural Olympiad on 26-28 September. All types of cultural and heritage activities can log their details – and they do not have to be linked to sporting themes. The main concept is to ‘Open up’, and some organisations are using light in interesting and creative ways.

- Lottery grant for Hampshire home of Jane Austin

- Jane Austen’s House Museum has been awarded £0.5 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The money will contribute to a project to mark the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s arrival in Chawton in 1809. This anniversary is of international significance, as it was while at Chawton that Jane Austen revised her three early novels, including Pride and Prejudice, and wrote completely her three others, including Emma.

- Nominations are now being sought for the Jodi Awards 2008. The awards are for museums, libraries, archives and heritage venues that use technology to provide access to collections and learning for disabled people, e.g. websites, interactive objects, audio-guides, PDAs and virtual reality shows.
