A regional co-ordinating group was established to harmonise work in the South East, chaired by Pam Alexander, Chief Executive of SEEDA. Called “the South East Partnership for the 2012 Games”, the group's Terms of Reference are based around three main themes:
- Maximising the benefits (the legacy)
- Involving all the region
- Undertaking a two way information channel with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG)
The South East Regional Co-ordinating Group for the 2012 Games is supported by six themed groups, which collectively encompass the benefits that the 2012 Games can bring to the South East.
They are:
- Business and Inward Investment (including sustainable development) led by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA)
- Culture and Communities (benefits to residents including inclusion) led by Arts Council England South East
- Sport (facilities and building capacity) led by Sport England South East
- Visitor Economy (tourism) led by Tourism South East
- Transport and Infrastructure (transport and regeneration) led by South East England Regional Assembly
- Education, Skills and Employment (workforce readiness and development) led by Learning Skills Council
Each working group is made up of regional partners and stakeholders from across the region. The working groups have been developing plans to address each of these areas. These plans will be pulled together into the South East's overall plan and will link into national plans being developed by the Nations and Regions Group and by Government.
