Strategic Commissioning Education Programme 2004-2008

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) have jointly funded this programme through the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

Outcomes
Increased Supply: building the capacity within museums to work with schools through skills development
Increased Demand: for museum education from schools (and to decrease the number of schools who currently do not visit museums)
Brokerage: partnerships between museums and schools

MLA South East focused on four main areas of activity:

• Schools4Museums Database which provides a regional picture of museum educational facilities and schools’ use of museums in the South East
• Development of four pilot models of Cultural Entitlement
• Reciprocal placements between museum/archive staff and teachers, including continuous professional development training sessions in developing learning opportunities using digital technology.
  An online elearning guide reveals good practice in the development of these resources
• An Advocacy campaign aimed at LEA Advisers across the region
