MLA South East works to promote excellence in the preservation, management and use of the region's cultural and natural resources. The South East Stewardship Strategy was developed in collaboration with museum, library and archive professionals in the region. They contributed in a variety ways including participating in a regional brainstorming day held to identify issues and solutions to improving standards and levels of investment in stewardship.
Advocacy was identified as the priority for assisting practitioners within the region to demonstrate the importance of good stewardship for collections and their users.
The strategy is founded on research in the areas of cataloguing backlogs, and a region wide survey of collection care and provision. In addition working with partners such as the National Preservation Office sampling preservation need in the South East has helped to ensure an evidence based strategy for the region.
MLA South East commissioned a team of consultants from each domain and led by the National Preservation Office (NPO) to develop the strategy.
The South East Stewardship strategy is for MLA South East staff and board, South East Museum, Library and Archive professionals and their organisations, regional bodies, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), funding bodies and private sector Stewardship service and suppliers.
